The Subgroup on Materials, Fabrication and Examination is responsible for:
(1) Materials - defining, clarifying, and/or prescribing rules for the physical material properties, and special testing, requirements under the jurisdiction of Section III, Division 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 – Article 2000
(2) Fabrication and Installation - defining, clarifying, and prescribing rules for welding, brazing, HDPE fusing, metal removal, and fabrication of components and their supports, development of new/alternative processes for performing welding and HDPE fusing in nuclear facilities and special fabrication requirements of component support design and examination rules for Section III, Division 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5- Article 4000
(3) Examination and Testing - providing the scope, responsibilities and program requirements for examination (and testing) activities on components and their supports. These responsibilities include; defining the NDE examination methods, acceptance criteria and procedure and personnel qualification for Section III, Division 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, Articles 5000 and 6000.
(4) Appendix W – providing input into environmental effects on components as directed by Section III Committee. The input is to list the degradation mechanism(s), discuss what materials are susceptible to the degradation mechanism(s), list the design methods to avoid component degradation, and address mitigation actions, such as material changes, stress mitigation, and coatings.
