Standardization in the field of geometrical product specifications (GPS), i.e. macro- and microgeometry specifications covering dimensional and geometrical tolerancing, surface properties and the related verification principles, measuring equipment and calibration requirements including the uncertainty of dimensional and geometrical measurement. The standardization includes the basic layout and explanation of drawing indications (symbols).

In addition to being a recognized standards developing organization, ASME administers several bodies which develop the United States position on ISO activities. Such bodies are designated by ANSI as U.S. Technical Advisory Groups (TAG) for specific ISO activities. The scope of a U.S. TAG shall be consistent with the applicable portion of the scope of the ISO technical committee (TC) or subcommittee (SC). The US TAG to ISO/TC 213 is made up of participants from the B89 Committee on Dimensional Metrology, the B46 Committee on Surface Texture, and the Y14 Committee on Engineering Drawing and Related Documentation, and operates under the H213 Special Committee on Harmonization of Dimensional and Geometrical Product Specifications and Verifications . The U.S. TAG to ISO/TC213 currently meets once or twice a year in various locations throughout the United States. The meetings are generally held in March/April and October and are open to the public. The U.S. TAG to ISO/TC213 usually meet in conjunction with the B46, B89 and Y14 Standards Committees and some times holds telephone conferences. The makeup of the U.S. TAG to ISO/TC213 includes participants from companies, technical and trade organizations, government agencies, and individuals. The U.S. TAG to ISO/TC213 Standards Committee operates under procedures of the American National Standards Institute.
